Customer Reviews:

A great sci-fi spectacle that deserves more recognition5
Having just watched the full series of Heroic Age in its Blu-ray incarnation (it was only just released this month), I must give it a very strong recommendation. Set in a world that essentially unites elements of Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, and with explicit influence from Greek mythology, the show is an obvious choice for fans of sci-fi spectacle. Action fans will enjoy heavy-hitting, subwoofer friendly battles of often entertainingly absurd scale. If planets and even galaxies could run and hide, they’d be advised to in Heroic Age. But the show is also more than just bang and boom.

Political intrigue and emotional underpinnings of the battles are never far from mind. Many of the important players in the show are desperately looking for a way out of the violence and chaos, not reveling in it. Two of four primary tribes (species) in the series have been set to battle each other, many confused by the meaning of contractual obligations (Labors) set before them, or rather to individual powerful beings “assigned” to them. These two are the technologically sophisticated but blindly arrogant Silver Tribe, and the space-faring upstarts the Iron Tribe, our human race. The Golden tribe is the one each aspires to find but which has also set them into galactic conflict. The Bronze tribe is an insect-like tribe that works at the behest of whichever tribe has been granted control over them. In this case, that would be the Silver tribe which uses them as front-line fodder against the Iron Tribe.

Last but not in the slightest least, there are five dominant beings formerly of the Heroic tribe. Four of them are under the thumb of the Silver tribe due either to contract or threats against their related homeworlds. The fifth is within our titular hero, Age.

Age is a young man of straightforward innocence found alone on a planet by Princess Dhianeila and a group of human space-farers who quickly discover his true power when he transmutes into the powerful being Belcross (a “Nodos”) to single-handedly smite a planetary invading force of the Bronze tribe.

With some comic relief early on as Age acclimates to his new-found friends, the show largely shifts to the aforementioned interstellar political wrangling and the mega-battles that usually ensue when not all players are interested in talking. As such, for those looking for much in the way of relationships and interpersonal drama, it is there but kept largely secondary in this grand conflict. There is some to be had such as whether the otherwise smart soldier Iolaous will ever see past his own dense infatuated loyalty to Dhianeila to recognize that her best friend and healer Aneasha is always there for him. But keep in mind that this is a show in which even Age himself becomes at times tertiary to the wider conflict.

As for the visual quality of the Blu-ray, the show is an upscale that benefits from great clarity of color and line and the constant and fast-paced action never suffers from compression issues. Importantly, with a rare exception such as in a disc 3 episode with excessive banding, the wide expanses of space otherwise manage to be held crystal clear.

Finally, the surround audio English track features universally solid voice acting and will rock your sound system during the many battles. The English voice cast especially excels over the Japanese interpretations of these animated creations in the cases of Christopher Sabat and Lydia Mackay. The former best defining the character of Karkinos and the latter of Prome O.

Good things come…5
Much like Claymore and D. Gray-man, this is a fairly recent series I loved watching on rented DVDs, but held off on buying on the off-chance it would arrive on blu-ray. And here we are. The animation for this series is stunning, and I love the story. It’s not without problems; sometimes the battles between the Nodos get a little redundant and tedious, and some of the main characters are downright unlikable. Even so, it adds some unique ideas to the space opera genre, and ends far more conclusively than some other series I could name. Recommended (though try a couple episodes before you drop the dough on the whole collection).

Great anime5
This series is fresh and really entertaining. I owned the series on DVD and purchased the bluray release when as well. Good story and character development with awesome action. Highly recommended!

Watch A Nightmare on Elm Street Blu-ray Right Now Free

Not complete or definitive5
Overall this two-set disc DVD is great. It includes many deleted scenes and the sound and picture is great as well.

Although this is certainly not definitive/complete. There are out takes, extended scenes, FX shots, TV spots, etc., that are not included. Such as a dialog between Lt. Thompson and Sgt. Garcia in the police station, more scenes of Nancy getting ready to battle Freddy (like pouring gasoline in that glass bottle she threw at him in the basement), another take of Glen’s body rising out of the bed, an extended dialog between Marge and Mr. Thompson at the cemetery, a dialog between Lt. Thompson and Mr. Lantz (Glen’s father), etc. These others were released in 1996 on laserdisc by Elite Entertainment and a two-cassette VHS by Anchor Bay. There is also trivia missing from the movie like, for example, the guy who was reading Hamlet aloud in English class is Daryl Hannah’s brother. Although there is a discussion of the different types and ways of doing Freddy’s makeup, there’s no mention of what Wes Craven originally wanted (such as the teeth showing through the flesh above the jaws, which ironically was used on the “demon” version of Freddy when he jumps out of the lake in Jason vs. Freddy). Nor mention of all the actresses Heather Langenkamp beat out such as Jennifer Grey (Dirty Dancing), Demi Moore, Courteney Cox (Ave Ventura, Scream, Friends), and Tracey Gold (Growing Pains).

But this is as close to complete as currently available on DVD. Now that we have the infinifilm special edition, hopefully a special edition director’s cut/uncut will appear one day with (if possible) the extended scenes placed back in the movie itself and not as special features to be viewed separately along with all the goodies in this and the VHS/laserdisc versions.

It was nice to finally have Amanda Wyss and Ronee Blakey (boy she changed!) interviewed. But it would have been also nice to get Mr. ever-so-famous Johnny Depp, Jsu Garcia, and John Saxon (71 yrs old now!) interviews.

Overall, I give it 4 and a half stars.

The film that revolutionized the horror genre5
It is a true testament to writer-director Wes Craven’s genius that many people now first think of Scream rather than A Nightmare on Elm Street upon hearing his name. While Scream certainly re-energized the horror movie genre, A Nightmare on Elm Street revolutionized it entirely when it was released in 1984. Twenty years after the fact, the movie doesn’t seem quite as scary as it did originally, but this movie has truly shocked and frightened many a moviegoer over the years, resonated with untold numbers of men and women in a new and undeniably powerful way, drawn in many viewers that had never cared about horror before, and introduced one of the greatest, most popular horror icons of past, present, and future in Freddy Krueger.

When you really look at the genesis of this movie, its incredible success is truly mind-boggling. Wes Craven had already made waves in the business with such horror classics as Last House on the Left, but the script for A Nightmare on Elm Street made the rounds of Hollywood for three years before the relatively unknown New Line Cinema stepped up to make the movie a reality. The total budget for the film was well under two million dollars, and the filmmakers basically worked miracles to make the film as viscerally shocking and beautifully gory as it is. A tremendous cast was assembled: veteran actor John Saxon and newcomer Johnny Depp (in his very first role) are terrific, Robert Englund needs no introduction for his unforgettable portrayal of Freddy Krueger, and a young and innocent Heather Langenkamp delivers a dazzling performance as Nancy Thompson. (Ronee Blakley’s performance as Nancy’s mother is over-the-top and rather poor in general, but this is essentially the movie’s only weakness.) Many people think that Englund carries this film with his brilliant portrayal of the nightmarish killer, and in a sense he does, but for me it is Langenkamp’s performance that absolutely makes this movie something way beyond special. I have always been a big Langenkamp fan; she brings to Nancy a mesmerizing sense of innocence, charm, and natural beauty that wins the audience over completely. Freddy is a dark and menacing presence, but he really doesn’t get that much camera time in this first film; Nancy is the essential conduit that connects the audience to the horror.

I don’t think much is required in terms of explanations or plot summaries here. Freddy Krueger was a murderer of children who was hunted down and burned to death by local parents. He still exists, though, in the world of dreams, and now the teenaged children of the men and women who destroyed him are his targets. Nancy and her friends all begin to see this strange burnt man in an old fedora and a dirty red and olive green sweater in their dreams; Nancy soon learns that whatever happens in these awful dreams also happens in real life. The first victim dies a spectacular death, one that surely poured heaps of shock value on 1984 audiences and which still works wonderfully today. Several other notable deaths follow, and Nancy knows that she alone must face Freddy and somehow engineer a trap with which to snag him. It’s not easy killing a dead man who lives in dreams, of course, but Wes Craven built a really beautiful logic into the story that makes it work convincingly.

The special effects of this film are remarkable, especially given the tight budget restraints. The death scenes are powerful and bloody, the atmosphere and look of the boiler room sets in particular are dark and malevolent, everything about Freddy’s look and performance are perfect, and even really cheap effects such as the phone tongue and melted stairs work beautifully. The special features included on the DVD are nothing short of superb, especially the commentary by Wes Craven, Heather Langenkamp, John Saxon, and director of photography Jacques Haitkin – I learned so much from this commentary (including the fascinating true-life facts that helped give birth to the original idea in Craven’s mind), all of which made me all the more impressed with this seminal horror classic. A Nightmare on Elm Street is one of the most enjoyable, powerful, and influential horror films ever made, and the transfer to DVD makes this film look better than ever.

A Nightmare Remastered5
A Nightmare on Elmstreet is a horror movie classic and its antagonist, Freddy Krueger, the ever charismatic son of a thousand maniacs is one of the best movie villians to ever be created. When I saw this new remastered version on Amazon I just had to buy it, and I am not disappointed. It is true that some of the horror masterpieces of yesterday may be somewhat neutered with its grainy roughness cleaned away, but not so with Nightmare. This crispness only highlights and brings new depth to the dreamlike surreality. Some of the its most legendary scenes (the demonic wall stalker, body-bag Tina,etc,..)are even enhanced giving them a almost painting like quality, reminiscent of a Fuseli painting.
The special features are pretty interesting and informative as well if not just a little redundant after awhile. Let me explain. Disc one has the movie and a few options as to how to view the film. First, and I foremost recommend for all nightmare fans, is the infinifilm version, which is just a fancy way of saying interactive movie. You watch the flick a prompt will come up telling you to push a button and get more info about the scene, the actors, inspirations for the movie, and even alternate footage. Next is the commentary, which to me is the worst aspect about this version of the movie. You’v go two versions to choose from (I have not heard the archival version, this is about the new one) the problem is that this commentary really doesn’t follow the movie but kind of just retreads the information given during the infinifilm version, with alittle bit more added here and there.
The second disc basically collects all the infinifilms together as a series of featurettes. There are also trailers and alternate endings, which also look to be remastered, and a trivia game that should be pretty easy to master after watching all the features.
Overall, with its new remastered sound and picure quality, this feature pack installment of A Nightmare On Elmstreet is a great buy for both fans of Freddy or for those who like horror (real horror, not the modern day CGI fluff) but may not have indulged this series as of yet, this is a good version to initiate yourself into the nightmares of elmstreet and become a victim of Freddy’s evil charm.

About the Director
Earl Chin is America s leading reggae deejay and veejay. For over twenty-five years, his legendary television show Rockers was uninterruptedly on the air, broadcasting out of New York City in the Tri-State area to millions of music fans. It was the first reggae music television series – and the most authentic one. After Bob Marley told Earl to bring reggae to American television, Earl was the first media personality to bring Bob to a mass audience via TV in the late 1970 s, and did the same for such stars as Peter Tosh, Burning Spear, Toots and the Maytals, Gregory Isaacs, Shabba Ranks, Shaggy, Beenie Man, Capleton, Buju Banton, Jacob Miller, Rita Marley and many others.

HP iPAQ 2215 Pocket PC —- Sale

July 28th, 2010 by hannah7123971

HP iPAQ 2215 Pocket PC —- Sale

ProductHP iPAQ 2215 Pocket PC

What do you want to today?4
Should you get a PocketPC? Should you get the Ipaq H2215? Depends of course on what you want to do, what difference it will make in your life, is it worth the money. The price of the unit is without a memory card…and yes you will need a memory card. I have a 1GB card and it was worth the money. Was the Ipaq worth it? For me yes.

I also bought a foldable keyboard so add that to the price. I am a graduate student and I bought the Ipaq knowing it had a recording function. This is very handy for me in interview situations. I like being able to display PDFs, PowerPoints (not very usable but a nice ‘toy’ this since the slides are so small), word documents, EXCEL, etc. The addition of the keyboard actually allows me to create files and I really like the size of the Ipaq even with keyboard compared to a laptop.

Of course it is not all work. I had an audible.com subscription for a couple of years and can play my library on this. If you have never tried audible with a pocketpc…it is a worthwhile experience. I am an avid reader but I have found that there are times when listening to a book is just the thing. With 1GB it is not an Ipod but it gets the job done for me and the sound is very good with MP3s. Add avantgo, ebook reader, and ahem, Pocket Everquest and it is a pocket entertainment center.

It is also extemely verstile. To get an idea of what a pocket PC can do for you visit a website that had downloads of applications. I found a very nice scientific calculator with graphing functions that would be at least $70 or more dollars for $12 as a download today. I am also trying out something called pocket earth that is very interesting.

Why 4 stars? I didn’t really need bluetooth and there are other products out there a bit less exsepsenive if you don’t need that. But HP customer service is A1. If you ask an email question they usually reply within 24 hours although for my old Jornada it use to be within in an hour. The unit comes with a CD-ROM with multiple utlities that you will find useful. In addition to price (and it is a very fair price btw overall) I feel the battery life could be better. Granted size played into that but you will find yourself recharging quite often. In a way that is a backhanded good thing though, it means you are finding uses for it, even if they are frivolous. So if you are willing to spend the money for the unit AND the money for a memory card big enough to serve your needs AND the money for a keyboard if you plan on actually creating documents with the Ipaq and it still seems worth it, enjoy your new pocket computer and your new toy. I am.

Best mix of features for decent price4
I owned Palm Vx for 3 years and finally found a decent color PDA that is sleek withhout sacrificing any features:

PROS

- Sleek
- Great navigation button for game lovers (even sony CLIE’s aren’t close)
- Integrated bluetooth
- Good display and good speed
- HP support was good when I had problem setting up AvantGo
- Even though HP doesn’t mention bundled software, they did infact bundle quite good collection of software which I think is around [money amount]worth.
- The synchronization software that comes with Palm is useless. You have to buy additional software and configure it to really get all the contact information mapped to the Outlook contact fields. If you are going to synchonize with Outlook, think no other than Pocket PC based PDA.

CONS

- Notes support in Pocket PC sucks. PDA device vendors should start bundling HPC Notes software along with this until Microsoft decideds to make it better. Can’t even filter notes by categories.

- Carry case should be flip-open type. You have to take the PDA out before using it.

CONCLUSION

Even if money is no constraint, I would still go for this model.

I still can’t understand why it takes Sony so long to come up with a good mix of features that is sleek. Inspite of being a big Sony fan, I wouldn’t pay $800 for Sony PEG-UX50.

Add value to your PDA by buying Pocket Informant or Agenda Fusion.

I gave 4 star instead of 5 because:
- I want it to be as sleek as iPAQ h1910 with iPAQ h2215 feature set
- Software like HPC Notes is not bundled

HP GOT IT RIGHT THIS TIME.5
If you are like me, you just want a good reason to buy the Pocket PC you are now looking at. BUY IT!

Why? Because the OS software and Sync software loads and operates flawlessly. HP answered every complaint ever made about PDA’s from its competitors and its own PDA products. This machine tops them all. It was my last machine to review after three days of intense research. When I went to buy the second best, this unit had just hit the rack. After working with it and despite the fact there were no reviews out by other users, I took a chance because it looked and worked absolutely perfect. In the electronics department, this was one the smartest moves I ever made.

Before this, I didn’t know what to buy: Pocket PC or Palm. How glad I am that I chose the IPAQ H2215. I am a minister of the gospel and loaded this thing with Bible software, a mini-word processor – heavy weight programs and they work like a dream. It is not a toy or a gadget – it is a wonderful tool!

The battery is replaceable and operates a good 5-6 hours in heavy use. The cradle connection is solid; there is no doubt that you are charging the unit. There is a place on the charger for a second battery, as the battery can be replaced by the user. Also, there is an adapter to permit you to charge on the road, without the cradle. Nothing extra to buy.

It uses both CF (compact flash) and SD Card, has blue tooth installed and the screen is marvelous. The processor is lightning fast. The unit fits in your shirt or pants pocket easy enough. If you work a lot away from the office or home desk top, this is the unit you want.

Buy it!

MGM tape is edited!5
How distressing that my favorite Elvis movie has been edited by MGM leaving out “I’m Just a Smokey Mountain Boy”. It cuts down on the opening sure, but it’s a song that sets the atmosphere for the rest of the film. It’s a totally bizarre and unnecessary omission from the film. It’s somewhat akin to omitting “Over the Rainbow” from ‘Wizard of Oz’. The whole film is fun…Tommy Farrell is superb as is his mom in the film. In fact, every actor turns in a great performance. Elvis is totally believable as Josh and as Jody. He never turned a finer performance in a comedy role. The 5 star rating is for the movie…I’d give MGM a ‘0′ for their editing.

Please Put On DVD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!5
Please put the wonderful Elvis Presley Classic “Kissin’ Cousins” on DVD,so that humble people such as myself can afford it.So,spread the word!!!!!!!Thanks!!!!!!!!!

A true feel good movie!5
I am a middle aged woman that enjoys movies that are funny but not tasteless. This is a movie I would let any young person watch and not worry about it spoiling their minds. It was quite enjoyable for me.
Thank you
